KL Sentral Station - Trains & Monorail in Kuala Lumpur

If you come to Kuala Lumpur, chances are that you are going to end up in this station at some stage.  And unless you are getting around solely by car or taxi, it's a useful place to know your way around.

With that in mind, the above is a plan of the area which may - or may not - help.

Basically you have a choice of four transport types (I'm not even worrying about the buses, let's not over-complicate things here):

1. (green line on map above) KLIA Transit/Express

- This is the fastest way to get to the airport, and it's also what connects Cyberjaya to the city centre: 30 minutes for the price of 9.50RM

2.3. (blue & red)  KLM Komuter Lines

- If you are going long-distance, you need the commuter or inter-city trains.  You will also get to the Batu Caves this way for just one ringit.

4.  (yellow) Rapid KL

- Useful for buzzing around the city, most places are less than 3RM.  Take this one for the Petronas towers at KLCC.

5.  (light blue)  Monorail

-  First thing to note: it's in a different building, across the road from the main station as the star on the map indicates.  But the monorail is a great way to see the city and will take you all the way up to Lake Titiwangsa if you so desire.

You buy tickets for the KLIA line, but for everything else it's blue tokens which are good for one journey. Scan them at the barrier on your way in to your platform & stick 'em in the slot on your way out again.

I hope all the above doesn't sound too daunting, because you will get the idea pretty fast and it's one of the better transport systems you'll find in any major city.

For those of us commuting to and from Cyberjaya, the KLIA line is the way to go.  It's about 18RMG for a return ticket from Putrajaya Station to KL Sentral, a journey of less than half an hour on the high-speed train.
