Selamat Tinggal Malaysia

After what turned out to be seven months rather than the advertised six, it is time to get back to Malta.  I knew very little about Malaysia before I arrived, and still didn't have time to explore more than a very small fraction.

It would be remiss of me not to include Malaysia's national dish on these pages.  Eaten for breakfast, lunch, dinner and supper, it's the definition of ubiquitous.  The unfortunate fact is that I'm not all that crazy about it.  But lots of Malaysian people are, so who am I to argue?

5 Reasons Why Putrajaya Lake is Great.

For reasons of mounting excitement and anticipation, I like to do these things in reverse order.  So here they are:


5.  You can go water-skiing.  Many people enjoy this activity, and in the 1950's it was pretty much regarded as the ultimate in luxury holiday recreational activities.  I tried it once a few years ago but kept falling into the water, which just makes you look unintentionally comical.

4.  You can take cruises around the lake, (day or night) to marvel at some of the impressively opulent and massive modern architecture of Putrajaya.  Go here for more info on that.

3.  There is an international fireworks competition right in the middle of the lake.  Everybody likes fireworks, so even though it's only once a year, it's worth waiting for.

2.  It's great to run around.  In fact unquestionably the best place in Cyberjaya - and probably for hundreds of kilometres in every direction - to run around.  You can practice for this here.

But definitely the best thing about the lake...

The Best Restaurant in Cyberjaya!

The more observant reader may have noted my statement in an earlier post to the effect that 'I don't generally write about restaurants'.  However, as anyone who knows me will tell you, I am a compulsive liar.*

So here is a post about another restaurant in Cyberjaya, and this time it's one of my favourites.

The general consensus seems to be that the best restaurants in Cyberjaya are of the Arabic variety.  While I am a big fan of Arabic food, I'm afraid that I just can't agree. At least not based on the three I've been to which, although perfectly good**, just don't make it to the top of the tree.  

Eating Frogs

If you don't like listening to frogs, why not try eating 'em instead?  Some people find the idea a little off-putting, but Malaysia is just the place to overcome that squeamishness...

It can be difficult to describe an unusual type of meat without resorting to the old 'tastes like chicken' fallback.  This is generally applied to anything from bats to boa constrictors, but in fact it often really refers to a lack of distinct taste.
